Dingell Statement on Fast Track Trade Authority

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) today released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives narrowly passed legislation to grant President Obama Fast Track Authority for trade deals.

"It is extremely disappointing that today, House Republican leadership jammed through legislation that will open the door to bad trade deals that will cost American jobs.

"Unfortunately, today's bill fails to address currency manipulation, the mother of all trade barriers, and gives away Congress's ability to ensure trade legislation protects our economy and our workers. Enough is enough. The men and women we represent should be in the driver's seat, not the backseat, when it comes to decisions that affect their life and livelihoods. It is my hope that the Senate will stop this flawed bill so we can get a better deal for American workers.

"Instead of partisan gimmicks, we should be working together to enact a trade bill that puts American workers and businesses on a level playing field with our foreign competitors."
